At the Cincinnati Art Museum, the Deputy Director of Institutional Advancement plays a pivotal role in the success of the museum. Needing to fill this position with the very best possible person, the museum engaged Smith Beers Yunker and Company to conduct a nation-wide executive search.
The successful candidate, Patricia J. Hynes, remarked on the “extraordinarily gracious approach” that was taken by Smith Beers Yunker. “It was refreshing to work with Smith Beers Yunker,” she said, “not only because it was clear they truly wanted to make a good match for the museum, but also because of their good manners and respectful treatment of the candidates. They gave me an enormous amount of information to let me know exactly what the position entailed. It was a very thorough and educational process, complete with a psychological test, which I have never encountered in any of my many experiences with search firms!”
CAM Board President Larry A. Sheakley, who served on the search committee, concurred with Ms. Hynes, saying, “The level of service was great, not only because they brought us a number of excellent candidates (and one who was perfect), but also because of their working style. We’ve used the services of Smith Beers Yunker on a number of projects, and they’ve always provided very helpful counsel.”
Deputy Director of Finance and Operations Debbie Bowman had high praise for Jim Yunker. “From start to finish, he is nothing but professional,” she said. “His work on the executive search project was very impressive. Every detail was covered and he knew every candidate quite well. We could tell that he really did his homework.”
A 29-year veteran of the Cincinnati Art Museum, Ms. Bowman has witnessed and participated in many projects involving outside consultants. Sharing her unique insight, she noted, “During my career with the museum, I’ve seen it all and I have never seen anyone work as diligently and with such devotion as Jim Yunker. In my opinion, an organization would be making a mistake not to hire Smith Beers Yunker. It is definitely money well spent.”
