JUDY D. SMYTH

Judy Smyth brings more than 20 years of marketing writing experience to each new project. She understands the power of words and how every element of writing – from a strong title or headline, to eye-catching subheads, to the cadence of sentences – can keep readers’ attention and move people to action. Her natural curiosity for information gathering and sincere interest in helping people and organizations succeed leads to effective, enjoyable copy that drives results.

An English major at the University of Cincinnati, headed for a teaching career, Judy’s future took a turn when she landed a job at an advertising agency in her senior year. She was hired because she was a fast typist, but soon became a “copy cub” and within one year, was hired away as a copywriter by a larger ad agency. Two agencies and a successful freelance career later, she has written for hundreds of companies and organizations.

Judy is well versed in both consumer and business-to-business marketing. Her expertise covers a wide spectrum of marketing vehicles: case statements, capital campaign materials, brochures, annual reports, direct mail campaigns, print ads, sales materials, newsletters, CD scripts, web sites, and trade show materials. Her clients range from Fortune 500 companies to small and medium-size entrepreneurial firms, to non-profit organizations. She has worked for leading companies in the manufacturing, technology, communications, financial, and service sectors, as well as consumer goods companies, including Procter & Gamble and more than 25 of its brands. This variety of exposure and experience keeps her writing fresh and lets her share “best” thinking and ideas across industries.

Whatever the assignment, Judy often gets involved at the conceptual stage, helping to establish the creative strategy and memorable theme for an effective presentation. Her non-profit experience includes annual fundraising efforts and major capital campaigns for Cincinnati’s St. Xavier High School, as well as capital campaign materials for the Universityof Cincinnati College of Engineering. In addition to writing for campaigns, she has first-hand volunteer experience with several hospital campaigns and has served on numerous committees for hospital and other fundraising events.

Judy and her husband live in Hyde Park and have three grown sons.
