ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

A member of the Ohio philanthropy team, the Community Representative will help build a strong base of donors in the greater Cincinnati market to support our conservation work in Ohio and around the world.  The primary responsibility of the position is to identify and attract new donors as well as to re-engage past donors through in-person contact, notably exploratory meetings and learning experiences such as preserve visits, speaker events, and other engagement opportunities.  As part of this contact, the representative will determine the capacity for major giving and the interests of the donor.  S/he will then work closely with philanthropy and conservation staff to design effective strategies to secure major gifts.  Prospects include individuals, corporations and foundations.

The Community Representative will network extensively in the market and is expected to develop relationships with partners and community leaders who can help the Conservancy with guidance and access to potential donors.  S/he must be able to learn and effectively communicate the Conservancy's mission and projects, and their relevance to people, the economy and the health of local communities.  In addition to attracting environmental funders, the representative must be a creative thinker who can make connections between conservation results (e.g., clean water) and nontraditional funders in fields such as community development, public health and education to help expand our donor base.

This position will be based in a home office in the greater Cincinnati area and reports to the Director of Philanthropy in the Ohio field office in Dublin.  Because of the autonomy involved, the successful applicant must be a self-starter, resourceful and be comfortable working independently.  Given donor availability, the representative must be willing to work evenings and weekends, and be capable of frequent local travel.  S/he is responsible for updating contact information and, importantly, maintaining an active strategy for each assigned prospect or donor in the Conservancy's fundraising management database.  Compliance with all Conservancy gift-related policies and procedures as well as guidelines established by the Association for Fundraising Professionals is required.

All candidates must demonstrate a personal appreciation for the Conservancy's mission and/or an interest in conserving the natural world.
