Redwood Rehabilitation Center

Just after Redwood Rehabilitation Center of Ft. Mitchell, Kentucky launched a $5.3-million capital campaign, the economic downturn of late 2001 forced the agency to reduce the goal. With the counsel of Smith Beers Yunker& Company, Redwood was ultimately able to restore the original goal and, in fact, exceed it in the end. Campaign Chairman Phil Schworer commented that “Resourcefulness and a ‘never give up’ attitude were the hallmarks of Smith Beers Yunker that propelled us beyond our wildest expectations in fundraising success.”

Director of Development, Tracy Wells, attributes much of the campaign success to the “good counsel from Smith Beers Yunker combined with great community support. We had to be strategic and creative all the time, and Becky Sittason really took the lead on that by constantly thinking outside the box.”

Ms. Wells continues, “In our initial meeting with Smith Beers Yunker, they emphasized a tailored approach that would be designed to meet our specific needs and they really followed through with that approach. Becky was always there to give advice, answer questions and do whatever was necessary to get the results we needed.”

Executive Director Barbara Howard adds that she “learned a great deal about fundraising from Becky. She bolstered our spirits in difficult economic times and guided us through the process of getting major gifts. We felt blessed to have her working on our behalf as she provided much helpful advice on positioning and effective communication with donors. She also was quite encouraging and genuinely interested in our work,” says Ms. Howard. “Because of her encouragement and that of the entire Smith Beers Yunker team, we were able to keep plodding along until we actually exceeded our original goal. Now we’ll be able to complete all the projects we have dreamed about for so long.”
