RICHARD W. BEERS

Richard Beers brings an operations and team approach to the organizations he serves. Since 1974, he has assisted a wide variety of organizations in implementing strategies for improved performance. He is particularly skillful in coaching executives and helping senior managers and boards assess and increase the effectiveness of their organizations.  His success in encouraging and guiding individual and group development has earned him respect from clients and peers.
With a background in for-profit organizations, Richard understands the challenges faced by non-profits in today’s changing and competitive environment. He has led or participated in successful comprehensive organizational change initiatives for clients in the airline, chemical, food, information, insurance, investment, packaging, publishing, transportation, and utilities industries. Clients Richard has served include Commonwealth Land Title, Land America, Hanes Hosiery, Exxon, 3M, Condé Nast Publications, Consumers Power, Rochester Gas & Electric, British Columbia Transit, Penske Truck Leasing, Kemira Chemicals, and International Paper.

Prior to helping form Smith Beers Yunker & Company, Richard was Director of Organizational Development for Brooks International Corporation. As a senior associate with Aubrey Daniels & Associates, he designed and implemented management practices based on performance measurement feedback, and proper reinforcement techniques. Richard also served as Corporate Officer of Human Resources/Facilities for the Balcor Company, a 2,500 person real estate and financial services division of American Express. As that company’s first human resources officer, he established corporate policies and practices for payroll, personnel data, training and development, building facilities, office services, and purchasing.

Richard received his Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Illinois Wesleyan University and a Masters in Applied Behavior Analysis from Western Michigan University. He lives in Delavan, Wisconsin, with his wife, Kay, and their two daughters. Richard is a Past Commodore of the Delavan Yacht Club, and currently serves as Membership Chairperson for the club which, in just one year, has enjoyed a 28% growth in membership under his direction.
