In an effort to determine how they could upgrade and improve their development effort, the leaders of St. Joseph Home of Cincinnati called upon Smith Beers Yunker to conduct a comprehensive development assessment.
Chairman of the PR and Development Committee John Bloomstrom expressed high regard for the firm’s approach, saying that he especially appreciated the outcome. “What Smith Beers Yunker brought us was a set of bottom-line recommendations and a very concrete action plan that we can use immediately as we move forward. It is also a plan we can use long term, as it breaks down recommendations into short-term, intermediate and long-term efforts we can undertake as appropriate over time.”
Jim Huizenga, also a member of the PR and Development Committee, agreed that the service provided and the resulting report was a “tremendous value in service provided relative to the fee paid.” He continued, “The action plan we received won’t sit on the shelf and collect dust; it’s something we can really use.”
Both gentlemen agreed that Jim Yunker was remarkably thoughtful, thorough and respectful while also being direct and honest in his assessment of St. Joseph’s strengths and constraints. They remarked upon his accessibility throughout the assignment. They also appreciated the depth of Jim’s knowledge which was demonstrated by his ability to relate their situation to other nonprofit challenges he had encountered over the years, helping them to put issues into perspective.
Jim Huizenga commented further that it was helpful to know exactly what to expect from the beginning of the process to the end, and that the entire board was pleased with the level of return on investment. Following on this, John Bloomstrom added that, due to the confidence and trust Jim Yunker established with the organization, they will not hesitate to call upon Smith Beers Yunker when future needs arise and will recommend the firm to other nonprofits. |
